RSHE   

Intent

Our RSHE programme is an integral part of our whole school PSHE education provision and will include relationships, health and sex education. We have developed the curriculum in consultation with parents, pupils and staff, taking into account the age, needs and feelings of pupils. If pupils ask questions outside the scope of this policy, teachers will respond in an appropriate manner so they are fully informed and do not seek answers online. Children are encouraged to develop their oracy skills, ask questions and broaden their understanding of RSHE vocabulary as well as showing respect and understanding for the culturally diverse world we live in.

To ensure progression and a spiral curriculum, we use Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, as our chosen teaching and learning programme and tailor it to your children’s needs. Jigsaw holds children at its heart, and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.

The core concepts below are promoted as a basis for RSHE throughout the school and, where relevant, across the wider curriculum, for example in RE, Science and PSHE.
